Hosted by Kallion Leadership and the Hellenic Association for the Promotion of Rhetoric in Education
We are all generally familiar with the procedural and substantive features of a healthy democracy: free and contested elections, political parties with diverse representation, co-equal branches of government, the right to assembly, free speech, freedom of religious worship, freedom of the press, etc. In this four-week camp we will not only improve our appreciation of these features but we will explore and develop the kind of leadership that each one of us in a democracy needs to exhibit. We will think about what it means to show democratic leadership not only as citizens of a country but as members of a family, a business, a student organization, or an online community. In our online workshops, we will look to improve the frequency and quality of such behaviors as taking greater interest in your community’s challenges, speaking up about a problem, correcting misunderstandings, listening carefully to the perspectives of others, and cultivating an appreciation for expertise. By becoming better at democratic leadership we can thereby improve our organizations and serve as a positive example to others.
All workshops will take place over four weeks, Monday-Thursday. They will run from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) or 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. (Eastern European Summer Time). There will be a welcoming session on Sunday, June 22 and a closing session on Friday, July 17. Guest speaker sessions will be posted as they are scheduled.
